The LEAD team is making solid progress on the construction of the FDOT State Road 5 (US-1) from SR 862 (I-595) to SR 842 Broward Boulevard Project. The improvements include rehabilitating the structural, mechanical, electrical, architectural, and life safety components of the Henry E. Kinney Tunnel; milling and resurfacing SR 5/ US-1 from Rio Vista Boulevard to south of the Tunnel; installing Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) along SR 5/US-1, extending the Tunnel top to accommodate a pedestrian plaza which will include new fountains, seating facilities, redesigned brick pavers, artificial turf and landscaping installation, and reconstructing the intersection of Las Olas Boulevard at SE 6th Avenue. The LEAD team has delivered the Golden Glades Multimodal Transportation Facility (GGMTF) and made FDOT and Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works’ vision a reality. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the GGMTF had opening remarks by FDOT District Six Secretary Stacy Miller, P.E., Miami-Dade County Commissioner District 2 Jean Monestime, Miami-Dade County DTPW and CEO Eulois Cleckley, Miami-Dade County Commissioner District 5 Eileen Higgins, and by South Florida Regional Transportation Authority Executive Director Steven Abrams. This state of the art facility includes modern amenities and combines multiple modes of transportation including rail, vehicles, buses, bicycles, pedestrian and other transportation services. The project includes all sitework, underground utilities, roads and ramps connecting to I-95 and adjacent state roads, new intersections, covered walkways, bicycle lanes, a pedestrian bridge connecting the GGMTF with SFRTA commuter Tri-Rail Station, a 10,900 SF transit hub facility, driver’s lounge, passenger waiting areas and restrooms, and includes a 954,868 SF parking garage with capacity for 2,375 vehicles, offering high connectivity and convenience for all users within the great South Florida Community. The LEAD team is proud to once again deliver the Best Service and successfully complete this landmark facility to improve transportation in South Florida. Today, we celebrated at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Underline Phase 2 project. This design build undertaking is moving forward at a rapid pace. Upon completion, the Underline will be the greatest linear park in the nation to be enjoyed by our great Miami-Dade County community. The Underline Phase 2 project will add 2.14 miles of improvements running within or parallel to the County’s Metrorail Right-of-Way and include separate paved off-street bicycle and pedestrian paths, landscaping – including over 1,000 new trees and 100,000 new plants -, lighting, street furniture, multiple amenities, wayfinding signage, intersection safety improvements, and pavement markings. The Underline Phase 2 Design Build Project consists of approximately 2.14 miles of improvements running parallel or below the Metrorail that extends from SW 19th Avenue to SW 13th Street in Miami Dade County. The project is aimed at enhancing and improving pedestrian and bicyclist safety. Enhancements include new dedicated pedestrian and bicycle trails, landscape, and lighting. The amenities include native vegetation landscaping, way finding signage, plaza and recreational areas located adjacent to Simpson Park, Vizcaya Metrorail Station and between SW 17th and SW 16th Avenue. LEAD is moving forward on the FDOT District 4 I-95 / Copans Road Interchange Improvements project in Pompano Beach, FL. The bidwell bridge paver is in place, the dry run has been completed and the project team is ready to pour 300 CY to complete the southbound lanes. LEAD has completed the erection of the new Pedestrian Bridge at the state of the art Golden Glades Multimodal Transportation Facility project being performed for the FDOT and MDTPW. The pedestrian bridge provides direct connectivity from the new Parking Garage to the existing Tri Rail Station. The bridge is supported by 3 cast in place concrete piers and has a total of two structural steel spans with lengths of 134’ (90,000 LBS – 3 pieces spliced on site) and 113’ (76,000 LBS – 2 pieces spliced on site). Kudos to the project team led by Graham Smith for completing this operation safely and without a glitch!

The LEAD project team, led by Uriel Lombardo, worked hand in hand with the FDOT team to deliver the bridge replacements and improvements of NW 136th Avenue at SR 84 Intersection Improvements in Sunrise, FL. The project was completed ahead of schedule while maintaining safe vehicular traffic and obtained an optimum CPPR score. Well Done!

LEAD has completed another successful project for the FDOT D6 and the South Florida community! LEAD delivered another successful project for our client, the Florida Department of Transportation. Lead Engineering Contractors, LLC completed the FDOT District 6 Alton Road Improvements project ahead of schedule to obtain the maximum incentive bonus while delivering the best service (CPPR = 104) for our client and for the residents of the City of Miami Beach.
